Posted by on Feb 17, 2017 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on How To Remove Bug Splatter From Your Caravan Stone Guard

When you head off for a road trip with your caravan during the summer months, it’s inevitable that your stone guard and hitch will end up splattered with dead insects. If you’re away for a week or two, that’s an awful lot of bugs to clean off when you get home, and they are even harder to shift once they’ve had chance to dry out. So, how do you get dead bug corpses off your caravan stone guard and hitch? Read on for a helpful guide. Tumble dryer sheets The fabric softener that is contained within tumble dryer sheets can work quite well to shift dead bugs from vinyl stone guards. Soak the dryer sheets in warm water for a minute or two, and then use the sheets to rub the affected areas. Allow the bugs to soak for a few minutes, and the rinse them away with clean, warm water. Potatoes The humble spud can also be used to remove bugs from small areas of vinyl, metal and paint. Simply wash any soil from a large potato, and then cut it in half without peeling it first. Apply the exposed cut side of the spud to the bugs, allow the juice to soak in for a few moments, and then rinse the bugs away with clean, warm water. WD40 or light oil WD40 or light oil is extremely effective at removing dead bugs from metal, making it ideal for use on your caravan tow hitch. Simply apply a small amount of oil to a soft cloth, and rub it over the affected area. Allow the oil to soak in for fifteen minutes or so, and then wipe the bugs away with a clean cloth. Bug sponges You can purchase special sponges designed to remove dead bugs from metal and fabric surfaces. All you have to do is soak the bug sponge into a solution of car wash liquid and warm water and rub it over the affected area. The special formulation contained within the bug sponge, together with the strong cleaning effect of the car wash liquid will quickly and efficiently shift all the bugs in no time at all. You can also safely use the sponge on your vinyl caravan cover. In conclusion These are just a few ways in which you can get rid of bug splatter from your caravan stone guard and hitch gear. If possible, give the front of your van a quick rinse-off after every use to prevent a build-up of squashed bugs that will be more difficult to remove...

Avoid These Mistakes When Choosing After-School Activities for Your Kid

Posted by on Dec 26, 2016 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Avoid These Mistakes When Choosing After-School Activities for Your Kid

Keeping your kids occupied after school with some activities such as dancing, team sports, martial arts classes, and art and craft classes is one way to help them develop their social spirit, enhance their creative instincts, and improve their fitness. However, all these may not come easy. You must be very careful in the choice of activity in which you enrol your little one. If you get this wrong, you won’t just be wasting money but you will be frustrating your kid for no benefit whatsoever. For this reason, here are some things you should avoid when selecting those activities. Not Being Collaborative If you were excellent at a given sport, you may want to enrol your kids in the similar activity and see them perform well too. While being a little pushy can actually motivate a child into doing something, going overboard may bring totally opposite results. For this reason, the best way to start is to have an open-minded discussion by asking him or her various activities they would like to sign up for. Asking their opinion of the matter gives you ground on which to offer support and find a beneficial after-school activity for them. ‘Bombarding’ Your Kid with Activities After you get an idea of what your kid is interested in doing after school, be very careful when deciding the number of activities your child will have. Enrolling your kid in multiple activities all at once may not be the best of ideas. This is because the outcome of such a decision is likely to be a mad rush from activity to activity, making it difficult for your child to devote their full concentration to any of those activities. Therefore, start slowly and introduce your kid to a single activity at a time, evaluating his or her reaction to each activity being added. Failing to Evaluate the Class Size When choosing an after-school activity for your kid, it’s very important to find information about the class size as well as the various classes from which to choose. The ability to understand something quickly will vary with developmental stages. For instance, in a martial arts class, kids may be grouped in classes based on their age and the belt level. The older and more advanced kids can learn perfectly in larger groups. However, early-elementary kids and beginners will require more time and attention. This means they have to be taught in considerably smaller school group...

A Simple Guide to Making a Decision on Caravan Sales

Posted by on Oct 3, 2016 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on A Simple Guide to Making a Decision on Caravan Sales

If you are planning to take some time to explore Australia via road, then a caravan would be an ideal mode of transportation. Nevertheless, choosing the right caravan is not simply about making a decision based on your budget. There is an array of other things you would have to keep in mind to ensure that your preferred choice would serve you for the long term. The following is a simple guide to making a decision on caravan sales. Determine the type of travelling you intend to do Instead of simply considering your maiden caravan trip, you should keep in mind how the caravan will fit into your long-term plans. For instance, do you plan to use it for weekend getaways with a couple of friends or for extensive road trips with your family members? The primary purpose of the caravan would influence the size, layout, configuration and fittings of the caravan. Other features you would have to consider based on the primary function of the caravan would include the off-road capabilities of the caravan, the rear suspension, the level of comfort and more. Determine the towing capacity of your current car When considering caravans, you have to ensure that the caravan you purchase will match the current vehicle that you have. Not many people have the financial flexibility to base their vehicle to the caravan, as this would mean buying a car specifically suited to the caravan itself. This is why it is essential to determine the towing capacity of the car that you already own and establish the maximum weight that it would be able to handle. Some of the things that you would need to keep in mind when determining towing capacity include: The allowable vehicle weight when towing the caravan when braked as well as un-braked The weight rating of the tow ball The weight of any other additional equipment that may be used when towing the caravan The individual manufacturer specifications for your car Determine if you would rather a new or a used caravan Just as with purchasing a car, you have the option of choosing between new and used caravans. Undoubtedly, new caravans come with a host of benefits such as having newer technology installed, lightweight materials used in the construction of the caravan and more. You also have the option of custom building your caravan when you opt for a new one. However, new caravans tend to come with a heftier price tag. If you have budgetary constraints, then a used caravan may be a more feasible option for you. When contemplating a used caravan, be sure to carry out exhaustive inspections for mould, rust, leaks and more. Tips for Flattening an Uneven Ground Before Installing a Tennis Court

Posted by on May 2, 2016 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Tips for Flattening an Uneven Ground Before Installing a Tennis Court

You want to put a tennis court in your yard, but your land is uneven. Luckily, it’s possible to level your yard on your own. Then, you can move forward with putting in your tennis court panels or pouring your asphalt court. First, however, here’s some tips on flattening your surface: 1. Manually level the area. At its most basic form, leveling ground involves removing excess dirt from high areas and moving it to low areas. If the differences in elevation in your yard are only slight, you can handle a lot of the process with a shovel. If the height differences are more extreme, you need to hire a backhoe. If you have a lot of low spots, you may need to buy some fill dirt to fill in those areas. 2. Remove tree roots. Once you’ve made the land relatively level, you need look for tree roots. If tree roots are left unchecked under your flat area, they may grow into your tennis court eventually. This could cause the court to crack or become uneven. To prevent this, look for roots in the ground you have just leveled. If you see any sticking out of the ground, trim them yourself or hire a tree professional to handle it. 3. Go over the area with a vibratory compactor. Once the roots are removed, it’s time to compact your area. Compacting the surface provides your tennis court with the support it needs. If you don’t compact the ground, the soil beneath your tennis court will be loose, and that could lead to shifting of your court after installation. To flatten your ground surface, hire a vibratory plate compactor. This looks like a lawnmower, but it has a flat surface along its base. To use it, you just push it along your surface. 4. Lay a sub base. Finally, to ensure your tennis court has a sturdy surface underneath it, consider laying a sub base. A sub base is a layer of small pebbles or gravel. It works with your compacted ground to provide support to your tennis court, and it’s a common feature under many concrete slabs. In addition to boosting support, your sub base also helps to separate your tennis court from the ground water beneath it. That stops water from migrating to your court’s surface and leading to cracks caused by freezing and thawing. It also strengthens the load bearing capacity of your tennis court, another thing that helps it last longer. Want to learn more about flattening your ground in preparation for installing a tennis court? Contact a professional installer for tips and ideas on strategies and...

Why You Should Choose a Fishing Charter Over Renting a Boat on Your Next Vacation

Posted by on Jan 21, 2016 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Why You Should Choose a Fishing Charter Over Renting a Boat on Your Next Vacation

When you’re ready to do some deep sea fishing, you can either rent a boat or take a fishing charter. A charter is a boat with a captain that steers it and controls it for you. While each may have their own advantages, there are some very good reasons to consider a charter over just renting a boat on your own. Note a few of those here so you make the right plans for your next vacation. 1. Unexpected safety risks When on a boat, you probably know about the risk of capsizing, but what about the risk of being pulled overboard when you’re fighting a marlin or other large, heavy fish? If you rent a boat, you may not know how to keep yourself safely anchored in the boat. There are also risks when you do catch a fish; for example, you might cut yourself with the hook, or the fish may bite you.  A charter captain will be able to instruct you on the best way to remove a hook from the mouth of a fish and will usually know which fish have teeth or may sting you and other hazards that can cause injury. Having a captain managing the boat while you’re fishing can also mean someone on board to call for emergency services if you and your fishing buddy should get pulled overboard or get cut or injured during your trip. 2. Less chance of losing sight of land Most boats today come with very advanced navigation equipment so that you can always find your way back home no matter where you fish, but many persons who are new to the waters often feel safer when they can still see land. If you pilot a boat yourself, you may get so caught up in the experience of being on the water or of fishing that you lose sight of land and may even panic. Hiring a charter can keep you safer and more comfortable when on the water. 3. Inspected vessels An inspected vessel is one that goes through certain checks by authorities and coast guards; a fishing charter service may be more likely to have an inspected vessel since they may be more liable for your safety in a boat they pilot. When you rent a boat, you may not know if it’s inspected or not. While the rental boat can still be safe, it might be missing some lifejackets, may need repairs, or may otherwise be of a lesser quality than one that has been inspected. There are many benefits to using fishing charters on your next fishing trip, so contact local charter companies to see what services they...

Commonly Asked Questions About Diving Courses

Posted by on Nov 19, 2015 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Commonly Asked Questions About Diving Courses

A diving course of some sort is almost always required before you do any type of diving when on vacation; you will need a certificate before your tour guide or boat charter captain allows you in the water. Taking a diving course can also open up many career possibilities for you, as you might work as an underwater welder for bridge and tunnel repair or may work to investigate crime scenes that are underwater. Before you take any diving course, however, you might note some commonly asked questions, as these can help you better understand what to expect. 1. What is the difference between PADI, SSI, and NAUI? When looking at diving courses, you may see one or all three of these anagrams. These are all organizations that train divers to gain their respective certifications, and all three are highly respected and can give you the instruction you need for diving. If you’re looking to take a diving course for vacations, then chances are any one of these certifications will suffice. However, it’s good to check with a resort before you make your booking so you know if they will accept that particular certification for their diving charters. If you’re looking to make a career with your diving, you also want to note if you would need certification from a particular association to work in your area and then choose your course accordingly. 2. What would cause a student to fail the course? Chances are most students get their certification for diving after taking a course, but it’s still good to ask what might make you fail. In many cases, being very uncomfortable underwater or simply failing to learn the written material that is given out can cause a student to fail. While actually being underwater is the best way to learn how to dive, courses always include some book learning so you understand your safety equipment, safe diving procedures, and the like, and overlooking this part of your course may lead to a failure to get your certificate. 3. How physically fit do you need to be to take the course? Rarely does a person need to go through a speed or endurance test or a full physical to take a diving course, but there are certain medical conditions that can preclude you from participating. These requirements and standards will vary from area to area, so it’s good to ask upfront and note if you have any of the conditions...

Tenpin Bowling Tips for Beginners

Posted by on Sep 14, 2015 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Tenpin Bowling Tips for Beginners

Ten pin bowling at places like Manhattan Superbowl can be a fun game for the entire family, as it’s a game that just about anyone can participate in and enjoy. While it’s a relatively easy game, you might get a bit frustrated trying to knock down all ten pins with just two tries. Note a few simple tips for beginners so you can easily improve your game overall. 1. Push the ball, don’t spin it. Some bowlers believe in putting a bit of spin on their ball when they release it, but this is a skill best left to experienced bowlers. As a beginner, it may be good to concentrate on simply pushing the ball with the palm of your hand when you release and keeping your wrist straight, rather than trying to spin the ball in any direction. This will keep it from being spun too heavily and winding up in the gutter or a corner of the lane. 2. Use the arrows. You may notice small arrows painted about one-third and two-thirds down the lane. It can be good to use these for your aim rather than trying to aim your ball at the pins you want to knock down. The length of the lane can make those pins a bit out of your reach and difficult to shoot for, but if you keep your eyes on the arrows, this can help you to focus and roll your ball straight. 3. Concentrate on accuracy, not force. Don’t assume that you need to put large amounts of force behind your rolls; this can cause you to hurt your back and your shoulders and can also mean less accuracy as the ball makes its way down the lane. Remember that when the bowling ball gets going, it can easily knock down all ten pins, especially as the pins hit each other. Rather than trying to force the ball down the lane, concentrate on putting it in the right spot and you’ll score more pins. 4. Stand according to your own style. As a beginner, you may want to simply stand according to your own style. This means that if you notice that your ball seems to drift to the left with every roll, stand slightly to the right before you roll. If you can never do anything but roll the ball straight, then place yourself directly behind the pins you’re trying to hit. A pro may be able to tell you how to aim better or put spin on the ball, but until you can afford those lessons, just accept your style and make a few adjustments to where you stand for better...

Why You Should Learn Different Swimming Strokes

Posted by on Jul 27, 2015 in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Why You Should Learn Different Swimming Strokes

You may be wondering whether it is necessary for you to learn different swimming strokes if you do not plan to swim competitively. This article discusses just three reasons why it would be good for you to learn several strokes. Better Workout One of the biggest benefits of swimming is the workout that you give your body. Learning several swimming strokes allows you to have a more comprehensive work out. This is because different swimming strokes may emphasize the use of different muscles or muscle groups. For instance, the butterfly stroke requires a forward movement of the arms so the muscles at the front of the chest and arms will be used a lot more while the backstroke requires you to float on your back and move your arms backwards so the back muscles may work out more during this stroke. Lower Risk of Injury When you use only one stroke to swim then you are likely to overstress the muscles of muscle groups engaged in that stroke. That overwork can result in swimming-related injuries, for instance damage to the tendons in your shoulders if you do not alternate swim styles to give them some rest. Having a repertoire of swimming strokes prevents these injuries since no single group of muscles will be overworked during a swimming session. More Fun Swimming may be just for fun or exercise. In that case, it can become boring quickly if you are restricted to just one stroke or style of swimming. The only way to keep the activity enjoyable is to vary the strokes you use so that your mind and body do not get bored easily. The different strokes prevent boredom because each stroke has its own demands on the body and mind. For instance, the butterfly stroke requires you to execute the dolphin kick perfectly and that may be a source of enjoyment as you witness how well you are performing that segment of the stroke. As you can see, you stand to benefit a lot if you learn as many swim strokes as you can. It is better to concentrate on one stroke at a time during your swimming lessons so that you transfer the skills learnt in one stroke to another stroke. For instance, the balancing skills you execute during the backstroke are the same skills that you will use during the front crawl. It will be relatively easy for you to learn all the swimming strokes so don’t regard it as a daunting task. For more tips or assistance, contact resources like Kingston Pool & Swimming...

The Advantages of Having a Marine Surveyor Inspect a Boat for Purchase

Posted by on Apr 17, 2015 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Buying a boat can be one of the most exciting experiences for anyone who loves the water. It can mean being able to hit the waves anytime you want, and without having to worry about hauling your gear back and forth to a rental. Before you buy a boat however, you want to consider having it inspected by a marine surveyor. This is a professional who specializes in the construction and engineering of boats, so they can offer some expert opinions on any boat you’re considering buying. Note a few advantages of having their expert opinion before a boat purchase. 1. Marine surveyors can inspect technical equipment No matter how much you may love boating, you may not understand how to inspect all the equipment on a boat to ensure it’s in good working order. Remember that a radio, sonar equipment, and pieces like these are very technical and may be beyond your scope of understanding. Just because these pieces are working doesn’t mean they are in good repair, as certain parts of the equipment may be worn and will need replacing soon enough. A marine surveyor can inspect these technical pieces of equipment that are part of the boat, and not just the boat itself, to ensure they’re in good repair. 2. Marine surveyors can ensure the boat will pass inspection and certification Most boats require a license of some sort and need to be certified as being safe. A marine surveyor can inspect a boat according to those certification requirements and not just according to whether or not the boat can stay afloat. Some certifications may include checking the condition of the inboard motor, technical equipment, lifesaving equipment, and other aspects of the boat that may be outside your area of expertise, it’s good to have a marine surveyor inspect a boat before purchasing. 3. Marine surveyors may note needed repairs you’ve overlooked You may inspect the hull of a boat before purchasing, but a marine surveyor will know how to inspect connections and evaluate the age of the materials used for the boat. They will spot damage that’s been done to a boat that you’re overlooking and in turn, you’ll know what to expect by way of costly repairs or insurance rates for your new boat. These are just a few advantages of having a marine surveyor inspect a boat before purchasing. Like having a house inspected or a mechanic look over a potential car to buy, it can mean making the right decision when it comes to buying a boat.
